Dieter Tede acquired the Hopper Creek property in 1996. Born in Germany, Mr. Tede has lived in California since the 1950s. His interest in wine dates back generations, to the 1860s, when his great-grandfather Friedrich William Tede established the wine and beer distribution business Tede & Schlie in Schwerin (Northern Germany).

In 1983, Mr. Tede made an investment in Audubon Cellars and increased his involvement in the company over the years, eventually becoming president of the company. In the spring of 2005, Mr. Tede acquired the assets of Audubon Cellars and merged them into the Hopper Creek enterprise.
